Good News : Samsung Series 7 Slate With Windows 8 Coming 2012

Samsung Series 7 Slate Windows 7We have only just finished playing with the Samsung Series 7 Slate which features the touch unfriendly Windows 7, but it seems as if the South Korean manufacturer is already getting ready to launch a Windows 8 Slate in 2012.

According to a report in Bloomberg, Samsung will bring a Series 7 tablet with Windows 8 to market in the second half of 2012. Only a couple of months ago, we saw Microsoft show off Windows 8 running on a Samsung tablet and even gave away a whole load of them to developers.
The tablets given to the developers at the BUILD conference were slightly different to the Series 7 Slate 700T we reviewed, as they had 3G and USB 3.0 included.
The Windows 8 tablet is likely to be a modified version of this tablet according to Uhm Kyu Ho, head of sales and marketing at Samsung’s personal-computer business.
Samsung also confirmed that the Series 7 tablet is aimed at business users, though with the £1,000 price tag, we could have guessed that for ourselves.
Owners of the current Windows 7 Slate will get an upgrade to the much more touch-friendly Windows 8, though Samsung declined to say when this would happen.
Indeed Samsung doesn’t even include the Slate as part of its tablet sales, along with the likes of the Galaxy Tab 10.1, preferring to group it with laptop sales. The South Korean company is hoping to boost laptop sales by 80 per cent to 18 million units globally this year.
While we certainly liked a lot of what the Series 7 Slate 700T had to offer, the fact that Windows 7 just doesn’t work on a touchscreen device was always going to be a problem. Will the addition of Windows 8 make it a winner? Let us know what you think in the comments.

News : Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Delayed For Australia

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1

Sorry to report that the second best tablet on the planet isn’t quite yet coming to Australia. It seems there is a serious dispute between Apple and Samsung regarding patents. So much so, that the courts in Australia have said Samsung must wait. With a pending patent issue Samsung cannot sell the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 elsewhere.

The fact is, there is a hearing in Australian courts scheduled for August 29, 2011. That’s a while to wait and it’s uncertain if after that time, Samsung will be allowed to sell the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 or not. This is a very substantial development. It does show why the 10.1 tablet is held is such high regard. It must be a real look alike in design. It’s the best tablet but apparently Apple thinks it’s an iPad with a Samsung logo on it. Sorry Australians, a bit longer to wait unless you look to other retailers who ship to your part of the world. What do you think about Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1?

Good News Today : Woww..Samsung welcome to Apple Selling iPhone 4S in Korea..!!

Samsung Electronics has decided not to block the sale of Apple products in Korea. Previously, Samsung executives were arguing fiercely to block the product made by Steve Jobs.
Apple's new product, the iPhone 4S, went on sale in Korea on Friday last week. As reported by the newspaper The Chosun Ilbo, Tuesday (15/11/2011), the internal Samsung could argue until the day of the launch of the iPhone 4S, whether to sue Apple or not.
A similar step has been carried out Samsung in France, Italy, Australia and Japan. In Italy, Samsung wants to block plans to launch Apple iPhone 4S on November 4, 2011. Blocking is because Apple violates two patents of Korean companies. However, Samsung's finally defeated in court in Italy.
"We decided to fight (in court) against Apple in the global marketplace, but not if only in order to increase market share in Korea," said a Samsung executive who is not named.
Samsung in South Korea's market was very dominant, ranging from mobile phones to consumer electronic products. It could be that Samsung feels its dominance is sufficient so that no longer need to fight against Apple. Not to mention, of course, the problem of imaging.

Good News : The Best iPhone 5 Rumors We’ve Heard (So Far Today)

iPhone-5Another day, another fresh stack of iPhone 5 rumors. We’ve parsed through all the hearsay to bring you the crème de la crème in wild-eyed Apple speculation.
Maybe it’ll have a bigger screen

Unwire.hk posted a few leaked photos of the iPhone 5′s would-be screen protector, which Mac Rumors and a few other blogs picked up on.

(MORE: Why Competing with Apple Is So Difficult)
What the pictures might mean

If the silhouette of the screen protector is in fact for the iPhone 5 (and not some other phone) then those old rumors of a larger 4-inch screen might be back in play. The capacitive home button might also be elongated and more oval-shaped than before, which seem to confirm previous rumors that it’ll pull double duty as a swipeable gesture area. Thumb-tastic!
When is it coming out?
“If we believe what we have been told, the iPhone 5 will be released on 15 October.”
- France Telecom CEO Stéphane Richard at a BFM Business conference, as reported by Tech Radar. France Telecom is the main telecommunication company for France and the third largest in all of Europe.
Surprise! People still want their iPhone 4′s

Broadcom, one of Apple’s biggest suppliers, is experiencing product delays that have many speculating we’re looking at rush orders for the iPhone 5. Cult of Mac, however, points out that might not be the case. “‘Rush orders’ are likely not from a new or unknown product, but rather imply more needed capacity with a mature product offering,” says supply-chain analyst Richard Davenport, speaking with Bloomberg. It would appear that demand for the iPhone 4 remains steady, even with all the attention the iPhone 5 is getting.

News : Toshiba Launches AT200 Tablet

Toshiba AT200Toshiba already has one tablet, the Thrive, but the biggest problem reviewers and buyers noted was that it was big and heavy. However, that's not a problem with Toshiba's latest tablet, the AT200, which debuted Thursday at IFA in Berlin.
The AT200 is very light and very thin, measuring 0.3 inches thick and weighing 1.2 pounds. It's got a 10.1-inch, 1280-by-800 display and a 1.2-GHz TI OMAP 4430 processor, making it one of the first Honeycomb tablets to not pack Nividia's Tegra 2 processor.
The AT200 runs Android 3.2, and includes most of the necessary trappings for Android tablets: front and rear cameras, micro SD, micro HDMI and micro USB ports, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Flash support, and a rated eight hours of battery life.
Toshiba's goal here is clear, as is the lesson it learned from the Thrive. In a market saturated with similar Android tablets, thin is in. Consumers want the thinnest, lightest hardware, and understand that the underlying software is always more or less the same in an Android tablet. Samsung currently holds the crown with the Galaxy Tab 10.1, but Toshiba might be in a position to challenge its throne. Plus, as Engadget reported, the AT200 runs a cleaner version of Honeycomb than the Galaxy Tab, which now comes with Samsung's Touchwiz UI baked in.
The biggest question, however, is when the tablet will be available. According to a Toshiba spokesperson, "the AT200 is currently on the U.S. product roadmap," but no other details were available. The AT200 will exist alongside the Thrive, which seems to be headed for the business crowd while the AT200 takes the consumer market.
If the AT200 arrives soon, at the right price, it might have a real chance to be successful stateside. The Thrive currently starts at $399.99, and appears to be the more premium of the two models. If the AT200 comes in at an equal or lower price, it could make some noise, even in the already crowded Android tablet market.

News : Fujifilm Announces FinePix F600 EXR

Fujifilm FinePix F600 EXRFujifilm has just announced a brand new camera in its advanced travel compact range, the FinePix F600 EXR which adds 30x Intelligent Digital Zoom, Augmented Reality and a new motion detection system.

The F600 is the follow up to the F550 EXR which we looked at in May but while they may look similar on the outside, the F600 has added some significant features internally.
First up is 30x Intelligent Digital Zoom which compliments the camera's 15x optical zoom. Regular digital zoom relies on enhancing the edges of distant objects during processing to increase sharpness. However this also increases noise in unwanted areas leading to poorer image quality.
Fujifilm’s solution assesses areas of contrast within an image and applies selective processing to the sections of the image where sharpness can be boosted without lowering image quality. If it works this will certainly be impressive.
The F600 features the 16-megapixel back-side illuminated CMOS sensor seen on the F550, and Fujifilm claims its low-light performance has been enhanced with the new motion detection function. It works alongside functions like the camera's mechanical image stabilisation and high ISO sensitivity.
In low light conditions with EXR Auto  selected, should your subject be moving (say you’re out photographing foxes at night like the rest of us), Motion Detection will be deployed along with a higher ISO (up to 12,800) to ensure a blur free image (of the fox).
The Augmented Reality function is a really just a boosted GPS function, where the camera will automatically recognise one million landmarks, pre-loaded on the camera, before displaying them on the 3in LCD screen. A sort of Layar for cameras if you will.
Other features include full HD 1080p video capture; rubberised coating (only on the black model though); exposure modes including aperture-priority, shutter-priority and manual for creative shooting; continuous frame capture of up to eight frames per second at full resolution; RAW file format, a selection of film simulation modes and a seamless panoramic option are just some of the multitude of options available.
The F600 EXR will go on sale here in the UK in black, red or white at the end of October and will come with a RRP of £269.

Steve Jobs Resigns as Apple CEO; COO Tim Cook Takes Over

Breaking news! Steve Jobs has resigned as CEO of Apple. In his letter of resignation, which has just been released publicly, he stated that he could no longer meet his “duties and expectations as Apple’s CEO.” He then asks the company’s Board of Directors to employ him instead as Chairman of the Board, if they want to.
“I believe Apple’s brightest and most innovative days are ahead of it. And I look forward to watching and contributing to its success in a new role,” he stated in the letter.

Jobs has been battling with pancreatic cancer since the last decade, which endured him through numerous treatments including a liver transplant in 2009. In January this year, he took his third medical leave of absence. He then made a surprise appearance last March to introduce the iPad 2. Jobs was last seen in public last June, when he presented the iCloud, Apple’s new online storage and syncing service.
As a replacement, Jobs strongly recommends Apple’s COO Tim Cook in his letter, which the Board has obliged minutes after Job’s resignation. The move was an expected one, considering Cook has filled in for Jobs during his medical leaves. Jobs has also been elected as Chairman of the Board, with Cook joining in as member of the Board.
Prior to his entry in Apple, Cook was vice president of Corporate Materials for Compaq and was responsible for the procurement and management of all the company’s product inventory. Before his work in Compaq, Cook also worked as COO of Intelligent Electronic’s reseller division and as director of North American Fulfillment for IBM.
From all of us here on Gadget.com, we wish Steve Jobs well.

Ten Years of iPod Apple

October 23, 2011, marks the tenth year since the iPod was introduced. The iconic portable media player has since become tiny and powerful, touch-capable and interactive throughout its different models and generations.

Then-CEO of Apple Steve Jobs introduced the first iPod 10 years ago at a special event. It has 4GB of storage, can hold up to a thousand songs, lasts for up to 10 hours, and can easily fit in one’s pocket. Although it was not the first MP3 player introduced in the market, the iPod was the first to become immensely popular among consumers.

To date, over 300 million iPods have been sold, but it did not come easy. The first iPod had a hefty $399 price tag on its launch and since at that time it can only be connected to iTunes-installed Apple computers, the rest of the world (who mainly uses Windows-based PCs) did not care. Things only began to pick up in 2002 when Apple came up with a Windows-compatible version of iTunes. By 2003, Apple had sold one million iPods. A year later, sales had reached 10 million.
There was concern on the fate of the iPod when more and more people are beginning to carry their music on their smartphones. While iPhone sales are exploding, iPod sales cannot seem to catch up, accounting for just 8 percent of Apple’s total revenue in the fourth quarter of 2010. The iPod Classic also did not get its update this year, as it usually does.

Whether new versions of iPods will be introduced or it will be shelved due to redundancy, the impact of the iPod in casual listening, as well as in the music industry itself, remains undeniable.

According to data released by Flurry, a company that provides statistical data application developers, this time the developers tend to create applications for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPAD, rather than for Android applications.

The study revealed that in the second quarter of 2011, 57 percent of the new applications project are created for the iPhone, up from number 54 percent in the first quarter of 2011. As reported by IT Portal, Friday (07/15/2011).

The data in the study also shows that in the second quarter of 2011, 15 percent of the new applications project created for the iPad, up 10 percent from first quarter 2011.

As for Android, instead suffered a setback. Because for the second quarter of 2011, only 28 percent of new application projects that are intended for Android, a decline from the previous figure that is still around 36 percent in the first quarter of 2011.

Flurry mentioned that there are two main reasons of the decline in interest in the application developers for Android, the first is the launch of the iPhone 4, while the second is the launch of the iPad 2.

"Google should take prompt steps so that Apple does not continue to attract application developers," said Flurry, in response to an increase in the percentage interest of developers to the iOS.
